Birthday Bio: Rosario Dawson, Activist from Day One

Rosario Dawson hits the milestone 40-year-mark today with a resume in activism that’s just as rich and deep as her acting CV.

Ten years ago, the New York City native was just about to turn 30 when she sat down for her film “Explicit Ills.” At the time, Barack Obama had just been elected president and Dawson was part of a celebrity faction that jumped into the campaign with both feet.

The entirety of her political and philanthropic activity needs its own separate post. Just five years out from co-founding Voto Latino to energize and mobilize the brown vote, we asked her during the interview if she remembers the first spark that ignited her passion for engagement.
