Consider yourselves warned. Oprah Winfrey is using the full might of her empire to promote the hell out of Michelle Obama’s new memoir, Becoming.
ABC News’ Robin Roberts may have had the first interview, but Oprah’s sit-down with Forever FLOTUS – which took place at Hearst Tower in New York City before an audience that included a group of local, female high school students – will have far more reach across multiple platforms.
In a mass promotion that needs its own “Oprah’s Master Class” episode, their Hearst Tower conversation will first air as a primetime special, “Oprah Winfrey Presents: Becoming Michelle Obama,” on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on OWN, with an extended unedited version available on “Oprah’s SuperSoul Conversations” podcast starting the same day. (Part two will be available on Nov. 19.) In addition, the full interview will be streamed on Oprah’s Facebook on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 11 a.m. ET/PT.
The interview will also be featured in O, The Oprah Magazine on newsstands Nov. 20, with behind-the-scenes content available on Oprahmag.com as well as globally across multiple Hearst Magazines’ titles, including the December cover of ELLE.
And guess what memoir Oprah just picked as the latest selection for her book club?
Due Tuesday (Nov. 13) from Crown Publishing, the book finds Michelle Obama “chronicling the experiences that have shaped her, from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing motherhood and work, to her time spent at the world’s most famous address.”
As Oprah’s book club pick, the memoir will be highlighted in the December issue of her O: The Oprah Magazine (on newsstands Nov. 20). However, OprahMag.com has an exclusive excerpt of the selection right now, and readers can watch a message from Oprah about Becoming, along with five exclusive excerpts of the sit-down interview at Oprah.com/oprahsbookclub.
