Kerry Washington: ‘We Were All Transformed’ by Anita Hill’s Courage

It seems appropriate this week to revisit some of the thoughts shared by Kerry Washington while promoting her role as Anita Hill in the HBO original film “Confirmation.” The April 2016 movie chronicled the frenzy surrounding Hill’s sexual harassment accusation against Clarence Thomas and her explosive testimony during his October 1991 Supreme Court nomination hearings.

The “Scandal” star said she was 14-years-old at the time and remembers her parents having differing views of the allegations – each through the prism of their own experiences in this country as a woman and a black man.

During the film’s panel at the TCA 2016 Winter Press Tour – two years before the nation will plunge into this exact same ordeal on Thursday, with new sexual harassment allegations against a new Supreme Court nominee – Washington talked about “how we were all transformed” by Hill’s courageous stand, the irony of her cast having to attend a “sexual harassment orientation” before filming, and her hope that the film would ultimately “continue the conversation.”
