It’s been 20 years since the release of The Big Lebowski, and today marks 61 years since the birth of its co-writer and co-director Ethan Coen.
During the film’s 1998 radio roundtable, he and his filmmaker partner-sibling Joel were asked to please explain the genesis of their “Nice Marmot” scene, where The Dude’s bath time is interrupted by marmot-wielding intruders.

The brothers went on to explain why they decided to keep Jeff Bridges’ “Nice marmot” line anyway.
