Birthday Bio: Chris Columbus

Before taking the director’s chair for “Mrs. Doubtfire,” the first two “Harry Potters,” the “Home Alones,” the “Percy Jacksons” and the “Adventures in Babysitting,” filmmaker Chris Columbus just wanted to draw for Marvel Comics as a little boy growing up in Ohio.

At the 2002 junket for “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” the writer/director/producer, born 60 years ago on Sept. 10, explains why he ended up trading comic books for storyboards.
